Peace Cards prompt conversation, prayer and reflection

New edition available during gift-giving season

LOUISVILLE — If you could do one thing to change the world, what would you do and why?

That’s one of the questions contained in a new set of Presbyterian Peace Cards available for $10.99 from the PC(USA) Store.

The easy-to-use 92-card set from the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program focuses on peacemaking in six categories: personal, family, church, community, environment and the world.

Each card lists a question for reflection, a prayer, and a recommended action. An instructional card also comes with the set.

“People of all ages can use the cards,” said Simon Doong, Associate for Peacemaking for the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program. “We hope that individuals, congregations and families use them.”

Ideas include using them as a sharing activity for small or large groups, a table activity for church events or for conversation while spending time with family and friends, whether at home or while on a trip.

“These cards were developed over a number of years as a resource for the Season of Peace,” said the Rev. Carl Horton, Coordinator for the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program. “After a number of years, we realized that we had enough cards to make a full deck! We also recognized that the cards could be used at any time and in lots of different settings. We’re excited to make this great new resource available to the whole church to promote reflection, dialogue, prayer and action around peace.”

Horton also shared that “while these cards aren’t specifically for Christmas, they’d make a great gift to be used in the new year.”

While there are some similarities between the new edition and previous cards, there also are some differences.

“This latest version provides helpful icons for which of the six areas of peacemaking that particular card relates to,” Doong said. “Some cards are even categorized under more than one area because of the intersectional nature of peacemaking.”
