Pittsburgh Theological Seminary will install the Rev. Dr. Asa J. Lee as its seventh president at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time on Friday, Nov. 12, at East Liberty Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Highland Avenue in Pittsburgh.
Following the installation, the Seminary will host the panel discussion “Forming Tomorrow’s Clergy: Exploring Ecologies of Formation for the 21st Century” at 3 p.m. Eastern Time in the Seminary’s Hicks Chapel. These events will also be livestreamed. Additional information about the livestreaming will be added here closer to the date of the event.
As the seventh president of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Lee is charged with leading the strategic vision and growth of the Seminary in carrying out its mission in the world. Also professor of theological formation for ministry, Lee come to Pittsburgh after serving for eight years at Wesley Theological Seminary — first as assistant director of programs for the church leadership center, then as associate dean for community life, director of African American Church Studies, and, in his final year, vice president for campus administration. During this same span, he served for 10 years as assistant pastor and minister of Christian education for Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington, Virginia, and he was previously the minister of worship and arts for St. John Baptist Church in Columbia, Maryland.
Lee holds membership in the American Academy of Religion, the Religious Education Association and the Association of Leadership Educators, and he is the acting president of the FaithJustice Foundation. He earned degrees from Virginia Theological Seminary, Wesley Theological Seminary, and Hampton University. Lee is an ordained minister in the Progressive National Baptist Convention.
