Come see theology through the eyes of a longtime global partner

LOUISVILLE — Registration is now open for “Reading the Bible with New Eyes: Learning and Practicing Life-Giving Faith in Guatemala.”
The event is another in a series of Zoom journeys to Guatemala by global partner CEDEPCA, the Protestant Center for Pastoral Studies in Central America. The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, May 19.
The roughly 75-minute journey is free and open to all, but advance registration is required. There is a suggested donation of $11. To register, click here.
The program will include music, interactive breakout rooms, testimonies of students in CEDEPCA’s Biblical and Theological Program, and a theological reflection by a guest speaker.
“I’m really excited about this particular journey because it is on a topic I care about as a pastor: everyday people in Guatemala learning and practicing solid Reformed theology, which has the power to lead to lasting change and justice,” said mission co-worker the Rev. Betsey Moe. “Our speaker, Dr. Paulo Ueti, is a theologian from Brazil whose teaching on Revelation and on certain “texts of terror” has challenged me greatly. I see this virtual journey as a rare opportunity to look at Scripture through the eyes of our global partners.”
Moe said during this journey, participants will learn how a theology based in the love and justice of Jesus Christ is transforming communities and people in Central America. Those joining will hear testimonies from pastors and laypeople in CEDEPCA’s Biblical and Theological Formation program and be led through an eye-opening study of scripture by Ueti, an Anglican theologian, New Testament scholar and friend of CEDEPCA.
Ueti is based in Brazil and also works part-time for the Anglican Alliance as Theological Advisor & Latin American Regional Director. He is a New Testament scholar and former professor of Spirituality and Biblical Hermeneutics at the Sao Boaventura Seminary in Brasilia and former professor of History and Literature of Early Christianity at the University of Brasilia/Brazil. He is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and the Brazilian Association of Biblical Research.
